2012 Vestry Nominations Form

 

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Vestry Nominations

 

Vestry elections will be held at the Annual Parish Meeting on Sunday, November 20th.  Three new members will be elected to fill slots of outgoing members.  Members are elected for three year terms.  The nomination period will be open from October 1 through October 31, 2011.

 

To be eligible for nomination to the vestry a person:

 

 a. must be 21 years of age or older

 b. must be a confirmed registered member in good

     standing i.e

            1. Regular in attendance

            2. Active in church activities

            3. Financially supportive

 c. has no member of the immediate family already

     serving on the vestry

 d. has no member of the immediate family employed by

     the church

 e. has indicated willingness to serve

 

The basic responsibilities of the vestry are:

 

  * help define and articulate the mission of the parish

  * support the mission by word and deed

  * support the rector

  * ensure effective organization and planning

  * ensure adequate resources in leadership and in financial 

     stewardship

  * manage resources effectively

  * determine that appropriate programs, policies and

     procedures have been developed and are followed

  * assess its own performance

 

The responsibilities of individual members of the vestry are:

 

* prepare for, attend and participate in vestry meetings

* learn about the mission, goals, programs, services, activities, strengths 

   and needs of the parish,the diocese and the national church

* maintain confidentiality on sensitive topics

* serve the parish as a whole rather than any specific group

* study financial statements and ask questions

* take on leadership roles or other tasks willingly and enthusiastically

* help identify new leaders

* contribute to the parish

* assist in stewardship education

 

The presiding officer is the rector and there are two wardens.  The senior warden, a support person for the rector, chairs the vestry in the absence of the rector and leads the parish between rectors.  The junior warden has responsibility for church property and buildings.  There is an appointed treasurer, and an elected clerk who is responsible for minutes and correspondence.

 

I would like to nominate the following person to serve on the vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  I have obtained permission to submit this name for nomination.
